Hi Timo

I am really looking forward to the new releases !!

I am interested to know if you would consider drastically changing the development of WinPT ? I will explain.

Just recently I have noticed that many people are looking for applications to run straight from their flash drives also known as travel mode. I suppose this would also add a certain degree of security. I appreciate that there are many more security concerns especially with portable devices but I think these will be of little consequence to the average user.

At the moment there are no applications that allow a user to send and receive PGP or GnuPG encrypted messages without a full installation of either PGP, GnuPG and possibly a further GnuPG GUI. I don’t mean to include an e-mail client but simply the most basic functions of PGP / GnuPG.

I have always been a fan of minimalism in security programs as there is less room for error and possible exploits. So the “WinPT traveller package” would only need to manage keys and provide clipboard encryption and decryption. It would be a real security bonus if all settings and application data for WinPT traveller and GnuPG could be kept in the same directory on the flash drive, like Truecrypt does now.

I would be extremely grateful if you would consider my suggestion and let me know your thoughts. I am convinced that as you will be the only provider of such a program that it will not only promote WinPT traveller but also WinPT and yourself as a programmer. I would be very willing to help promote your product on security forums and perhaps help write a manual or something. Unfortunately I am no programmer.

Thanks you for considering this and I look forward to your reply.

Due to the fact that a lot of WinPT code has changed recently, I will propably release a couple of new versions in the next month.

The problem with joining a forum/list/likewise is definitely time.

Hi Timo and Jan.

I am sorry for missing anybody out. Shortly after I made my original post I did notice that I had not worded it correctly but there was no option to “edit” on this forum so I thought I would just leave the post as it was as I was sure you all would understand what I meant.

So it may be better to say, thanks to all who have already contributed to WinPT and thanks to anyone who may do so in the future.

I am wondering will there be a new release for Jan 2006 ? Also would you be interested in joining a few computer security forums and promoting WinPT a bit more as it is quite hard to find for beginners.

Thanks again and I wish you all the best of luck.

Hello,

I am not involved in the actual WinPT project.
I did not add a single line of code.

Timo is the main author and doing all the work

Best
Jan

We try our best to make WinPT useful as possible.

I don't want to steal any fame, but it seems that it is specially for new users hard to figure out what persons are responsible for what.

Intevation (Jan) was so kind to provide a nice development environment. He's not really involved in development right now.

Werner recently joined the team and provided a lot of patches and helped to port WinPT to the autoconf environment.

I'm the original author and the active maintainer of the project.

Hi Jan

I just signed up to this forum to say thank you very much for all your hard work with WPT. Using GnuPG without a GUI is a real pain and your work has made it possible for many people to enjoy the privacy that GnuPG offers with the convenience of a simple to use GUI.

Thanks again and please carry on the good work and make WPT the best GnuPG GUI on the net !!
